IBBA membership provides members with access to an international organization of professionals. IBBA is the only global organization to offer guidance, support, and standards of competency to birth-breastfeeding professionals. Member services include:
- Recognition of a professional’s competency-based on training standards
- Tracking and monitoring of competency
- Evaluation of training curricula for organizations and independent trainers
- Consultation for training organizations and independent trainers on curriculum development
Recognition of a professional’s competency
IBBA will evaluate the competencies that a birth-breastfeeding professional has achieved and provide recognition for those who have completed a minimum of the foundation requirements. Competency can be demonstrated through attendance at workshops, seminars or conferences, participation in courses (face-to-face or online), self-learning and experience. Recognition will be awarded at the foundation, core, advanced or expert level dependent on the competencies achieved for the levels achieved.
Tracking and monitoring competency
Members are provided with tools to track and monitor their competency development. These tools enable members to identify how they are progressing with their competencies and how they can achieve them.
Evaluation of training curricula
Training organizations and independent trainers can submit their curriculum to IBBA for review. This will be assessed against the IBBA competency standards and evaluated for the competencies that can be achieved through the program. Any professionals who train through these programs can then be accredited as having achieved the relevant competencies.
We also provide guidance and support for training organizations or independent trainers who would like to move toward a competency model of training.
